Meet Oral Surgeon Dr. Black
Dr. Black was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in the small community of Panguitch, Utah. While attending high school, he enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard where he completing 8 years of honorable military service including 2 deployments. Additionally, he served a 2-year church mission in Portugal and began attending Utah State University where he met his beautiful wife Jenn. Due to circumstances following a military deployment in Iraq, Dr. Black then transferred to Brigham Young University – Idaho where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration in 2011. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in his class and was given the opportunity to speak during his graduation ceremony. Dr. Black was then accepted into the prestigious University of Iowa College of Dentistry to begin his dental education and training. While there he was recognized with several awards for research and academics, including the Deans Academic Recognition Award and the Dr. Kim Swanson Dental Scholarship. Upon completion of his Doctor of Dental Surgery training, he was also awarded the AAOMS (American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons) Dental Implant Award, and was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
In 2015, Dr. Black began his rigorous four-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, one of the most prestigious and well-respected OMFS residency programs in the nation. Dr. Black’s specialty training includes a wide range of oral and maxillofacial surgery disciplines including wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, IV sedation and general anesthesia, orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, and the management of benign pathology. Dr. Black is dedicated to ensuring patients feel comfortable and enjoy their experience in the office. He takes time to get to know his patients, develop a trustworthy relationship, and spend time educating them regarding their options for personalized care. He takes great satisfaction in relieving pain, restoring oral function, and improving patient appearance.
Dr. Black and his wife Jenn are the proud parents of their three daughters and one son; Kinsley, Caden, Haley, and Emma. They are excited to live in such a beautiful area and become an active part of the community in both Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint. Dr. Black’s hobbies include hiking, golfing, basketball, snowboarding, spending time with his family, and anything outdoors.
